What You Need To Know About The American Curl

The American Curl is one of those unique cats people sought after.  Despite its origin resulting from spontaneous mutation, these kitties still found a place in the lives of people.  It was in 1983 when the American Curl first gained recognition from a cat show.  Several years later, this cat breed became the first one to be admitted at the Cat Fanciers’ Association.  The aforementioned breed can be either longhair or shorthair.

The cat got its name from its ears.  When the kittens are born, they have straight ears.  However, just after ten days, you will see that their ears begin to curl.  Seeing this just makes the owners happy and treats the kittens like their own children.  This happens for four months.  On the fourth month, the ears stop curling and can touch them.  They consider an American Curl of utmost quality when they have almost straight ears.  Nevertheless, for the show category, ears having greater angle is preferred.

As for the Curl’s behavior, it is said that they are people-oriented.  They want to be with you almost every time.  They too are faithful and affectionate.  It is also quite amazing to see that they can easily adjust to whatever new thing or situation is provided.  They have this connotation of being the “Peter Pan of Felines” because they seem to have their kitten-like personality even though they reached adulthood already.  With this kind of personality to keep you company, surely, you would not feel lonely.

Whatever cat breed you choose to own, you will find yourself smiling at their antics.  More so, with a cuddly and affectionate pet such as an American Curl, there is no doubt that fun is always at your side.  It may be hard sometimes to get used to the behavior or temperament of your feline friend, there is that assurance of loyalty.  Cats, just like dogs, are faithful to their owners.  They know and feel if their masters give them the care that they need.  More so, if you have kids with you, they will also be fond of these creatures because they are playful in nature.  Nevertheless, you still need to keep an eye on them to avoid any accidents from happening.
