Himalayan Cats : Not Just Pets but Actors as well Himalayan cats are the results of interbreeding two equally lovely cat breeds, the Siamese and the Persian cats. This cat breed has the blue eyes and the markings of a Siamese cat. It has extremely long fur that is fluffy that is similar to that of Persian cats. It also inherited the Persian’s friendly disposition towards both their owners and strangers as well. This cat breed looks and acts so much like Persian cats that the British decided to call it Colorpoint Persians but the Americans stuck to its original name and thought of much better nickname, Himmy. A few cat registries already classify the Himalayans as a modern Persian seen in cat shows but some registries still classifies the said cat breeds differently.
This cat breed’s body color is mostly just white or cream but its points may be anywhere from blue, lilac, brown, chocolate, flame, cream or red. Some variants of this cat breed could have a unique tabby appearance or a tortoiseshell pattern in their points. The other colors are easy to come by but both the chocolate and lilac colors are hard to produce. They have a recessive quality that requires both parents to have that color. If only one parent is either colored chocolate or lilac, it is highly unlikely to produce chocolate colored or lilac kittens.
This breed of cats often has short legs, making them slow runners and low jumpers. Unlike other cats, they could not be swift and they are not able to jump to or from high walls. Plus, their bodies would be fat most of the time and to move fast would not be an easy thing to do. On the average, these cats weigh around 13 pounds.
However slow moving, Himalayan cats have the Persian’s friendliness and sweetness towards humans and other animals as well. They are generally smart cats. They often do funny things, which make them an excellent companion. They are also active during the most part because of the Siamese cats’ genes in their bodies. They enjoy playing so much with their masters and other animals. It’s a sad thing that they could not move as fast but their slowness and incapacity to jump from high walls often what makes them so cute and adorable.
Cats, like dogs, have been known to appear in the media for some time now. There are even movies made about them. Cats are relatively good natured and with proper conditioning could always work well with humans. Himalayan cats are most especially cooperative. This cat breed probably is the most accustomed to being seen on television. The house cat of Robert Deniro in the films Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers was in fact a Himalayan cat. The movie Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey and its sequel Homeward Bound II: Lost in San Francisco even starred a Himalayan cat as one of its major characters.
Not only popular television actors, these cats are also adored by famous celebrities, one of which being Martha Stewart, who carefully named each of her seven cats after famous composers such as Mozart and Beethoven.
