Russian Blue : A Close Cat

Pets have been around ever since people had history. Having a pet offers a unique bond between the person and the animal. With that in mind, one of the most common and most popular pets today is the domesticated cats.

Before, domesticated cats were believed to have been first introduced by the Egyptians wherein the cat is a cult animal. This belief was broken in 2007 wherein a study conducted showed that the ancestors of the domesticated cats lived in Africa at around 8000 BC known as the African Wild Cats. Today over 600 million homes have at least a single cat. They are valued not only for their companionship but also their usefulness around the house as cats can track down and eliminate common house pests. They can also learn different tricks and commands and they are known to learn simple man made mechanisms. For most people, the ideal pet is one which is friendly, cooperative and loyal. This is exactly what the Russian Blue cat is.

The body of a Russian Blue cat is long and slender which also has a graceful outline. Their legs are high and fine with small, round paws. They also have a fairly long tail just like their neck. The head of a Russian Blue cat is a short wedge with a long, flat skull. They have a prominent whisker pad and a straight nose along with a powerful chin. Their ears are pointed with a large base. And the shapes of their eyes are almond and are set wide apart.

The Russian Blue cat is one of the most sought after cats in the world. First of all is its unique appearance. The Russian Blue cat’s colour is silver blue giving it a distinct look. This unique coat is also known as the double coat wherein the outer or guard coat is blue in colour with silver tips which protects the soft undercoat. Both layers are equal in length. The texture of their coat is very unique which separates it from all other cats. This is one of their greatest characteristics.

Their other characteristic which makes them so popular and sought after is due to their temperance. They tend to develop deep bonds with their human counterparts and are known to be very intelligent, playful and outgoing. They love to play with toys and with those they love. They have been known to be able to open doors and windows around the house. They are also known to be very sensitive to the emotions of people and the Russian Blue cat is also known to get along with other pets and the children in the household. The Russian Blue cat is very shy around strangers unless they are brought up in very active homes.

Also known as the Archangel Blues, the Russian Blue cat first originated from Arkhangel, Russia and was first brought to the Archangel Isles, England in the 1860’s. In 1970, there were some who were able to breed Russian Whites and Russian Black but they are recognized as provincial classes.
