Siamese Cats
Do you have a natural feeling of affection towards felines? If the answer is yes, well, this topic is for you. Of all the known breed of felines, the Siamese is the most popular domesticated cat in the world. These charming, blue-eyed cats are rich in history and legends. Allow me to narrate some of traditional legends regarding Siamese cats. Once upon a time Siamese cats were believed to be the protectors of the temples in ancient Thailand. Siamese cats are the most revered pet that only the royal family is allowed to own them. People believed that when a person dies, his soul is given to a cat through selection. The selected cat is sent to the temple and pampered with luxury in the belief that the relatives of the dead person will receive good fortune and blessings. (Wow. I wish I was a Siamese cat a long time ago.) Even the kinky tail of this lovable feline has a legend. Old folks tell that the kinky tails of the Siamese cats are the result of a Siamese cat’s devotion to serve a Siam princess a long time ago. The Siamese cat’s tail is used to hold the princess rings while she takes a bath. Legends aside, these wonderful cats are also loving and affectionate, that’s why they are the most sought-after felines in the world. Not only that, they are intelligent, outgoing and has the ability to convey their feelings to people. However if you are a type of feline lover who doesn’t like noise, then Siamese cats are not for you. Yet, despite their loud and hoarse yowl, they are very loyal and devoted companion for you. If you neglect them for along time, they sulk. Siamese cats are also hyper actives, it is important that you give them toys or any activity that will make them busy and so as to prevent them from tearing down your furniture. The average lifespan of a cat, in general, is twelve to fifteen years for indoor cats and three to four years for outdoor cats. For a healthy Siamese cat, its average lifespan is fifteen to twenty years and even longer than twenty years. In comparison, Siamese cats live longer than an average cat. However, they are prone to gingivitis and tartar teeth problems. If these health risks are not given any attention, it will affect the longevity of your Siamese cat. Siamese cats are a favorite caricature and also a favorite pet of some famous persons in the world. Remember the Puss in Boots fairy tale? Well, he is not only the famous Siamese cat in history. There’s also Bucky Katt from “Get Fuzzy”, San Shein, owned by Susan Ford, Kit the Cat in “Charmed” and many others, just to name a few. The colors of the Siamese cats are also one of the factors that make them famous. At birth, however their color is pure white. Their real colors will appear a year after their birth. Colors include brown, seal, chocolate, red, lilac and brown. Ok. I know you want one right. Well, before you storm to your favorite pet store, here’s a tip for you regarding how you feed them: they need 80 kilocalories of food per kilogram of body weight. So, that’s one starter for about a Siamese cat’s diet. |
