Sphynx Cats

Sphynx cats are worthy of attention because of its hairless body. Also known as “Canadian Hairless” They are not really hairless, it is only that its hair is short and has the touch of Chamois leather. Because of its hairlessness, some feline lovers might regard that the Sphynx cat may also be hypoallergenic. However, this may not be the case. Allergens can be found in its dander, which may respond worse in Sphynx cats than other breeds. This fact, however can be disputed because different people have different cat allergen sensitivities.

Another characteristic of a Sphynx cat is its strong liking to cuddle up against people and other animals. Just because a Sphynx cat doesn’t have long hairs, it is always cold. Such is not the case. Sphynx cats have the ability to maintain to maintain their body temperature. They can warm themselves. If the temperature becomes intolerable for them, they will always find way through your mats and blankets as well as on your lap.

They have heads shaped like wedge and have bodies that are strong and heavy. They have the tendency to develop “pot bellies”.

Like any other cats, the Sphynx cat is also affectionate. They are hyperactive and shows sign of high intelligence over any other breed of cat. They are also extremely outgoing and have a strong curiosity about their owners. They can exhibit unconditional love towards their owners. Sphinx cats can get along easily well with other people.

One might think that care and maintenance for a Sphynx might not be that tedious compared with other cat breeds because of it baldness. If you are on of them, well, this notion is wrong. Because it lacks hairs, the body oils that it secretes stays and builds up in the skin which can trigger an allergy attack. It is necessary to have a regular cleaning or bathing for your Sphinx cat at least once a week. Because of this need for frequent bathing, it is advisable to use mild shampoo or soap to prevent skin drying. Sphinx cats should also stay at home always. It should not be exposed to sunlight as this may cause them sunburn. If you are planning to have one, then it is necessary to install sunblock screen and shades at your home to protect them from sunlight. They also have the tendency to go outdoors because of the fact that they so inquisitive.

Sphynx cats eat more food than an average cat. An average cat takes 80 kilocalories of food per kilogram of body weight. This only means that the Sphynx cat should be fed with more food with greater calories. This is because they have higher rate of metabolism that is needed to maintain a warm body temperature.  

The Sphinx cat is a natural mutation. These cat breed are the rarest cats in the world. It occurs every fifteen years. Cat breeders breed this cat with other naturally short-haired cats to propagate and create sounder and healthier breeds. Sphinx cats are also rare.

If you want to have one, you must be ready for its care and maintenance need. Keep in mind however, even if needs an extra care, you will be rewarded of its loyalty and affection for you.
